Oh Boy

If you're my age, it's pretty well doubtless that your initial exposure to Buddy Holly was via The Buddy Holly Story which starred Gary Busey. Not that it's a bad movie, it's just that I can't think of any other halfway decent movie that Gary Busey has ever starred in and everyone still knows his name. I'm pretty sure that was a made for TV movie too. Those were different times. At least it showcased all of the amazing songs that he wrote. Holly, not Busey.

There's an outside shot that you'd heard about Buddy Holly from that horrible Don Maclean song about the day the music died. The one that talks about driving a Chevy to the Levy, bla bla bla. It's probably been 25 years since I listened to more than 5 seconds of that song. Can't stand it. It's right up there with Paradise by the Dashboard Light and The Cats in the Cradle in the 'makes me want to self induce cardiac arrest' department.

Or maybe you know him from the Weezer song. You know, the one where the video is set in Arnold's from Happy Days? Awesome, but they don't really sound anything like Buddy Holly.

Any way you look at it, Buddy Holly rocked. Plus, he was just about the first musician that I know of to play a Fender Stratocaster. That about says it all.
